Review: Passing Time Podcast
Identified hosts?
Yes. Anthony Lucero. Although, I didn’t hear him clearly. I had to check his website to figure out what he said.
New podcaster tip: When introducing yourself, say your name loud, clearly and even slowly if necessary.
Explained what the show is about?
Not really. While he didn’t go into detail about WHAT he’ll talk about on the show, he did explain WHY he was doing the show. He said he loves podcasts and loves telling stories. He also said podcasts help him get through his day and he’d like to do that for people as well.
Time to topic
Around 3 minutes. I think this is a bit excessive for a first episode, but Anthony spent most of the time talking about why he’s excited about doing the show.
Show structure/type
One host monologue talking about various topics
Topic(s) discussed
Coffee enemas | diets and why he couldn’t stick to one | how easy it is to start things these days | some motivational words | his thoughts on the world of podcasting (present and future) | where he recorded the podcast and some UFC talk.
Audio quality
It was very clear, however it was kind of low.
New podcaster tip: Have your recording levels peak at -12db. This will give you some solid audio.
Passion/personality
I sensed passion from the beginning when he said he loves listening to podcasts and he’d like to be “that” for other listeners.
Mentioned socials/site(s)?
Yup. Passing-Time.com
Mentioned schedule?
Yes. Every Monday.
Mentioned hashtag?
He didn’t, but it looks like #passingTimePod is empty and ready for use on Twitter
Asked anything of the audience/call-to-action(CTA)?
He asked that the listener check out Fighter and the Kid podcast, “If you love to hear two guys joking around”.
New Podcaster tip: It’s a good idea to mention WHY someone should do what you’re asking of them (like Anthony did).
He also asked the listener to visit his website, but this time he didn’t say why. I’d suggest saying something like “visit my website to check out my latest blog on xyz”.
Summary
I thought this was a good first episode. I enjoyed “getting to know” Anthony. His personality gave me a vibe of “easy going guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously” and I’m OK with that. I think it’s a personality type that works well for a podcast.
One part of the episode that stood out to me was when he mentioned he was recording in his closet. The reason I like it is because it’s authentic. It lets the listener understand and feel what Anthony’s actually doing. I remember hearing Bhan from Daughter saying her studio was in her closet as well. For the record, a closet is a GREAT place to record. It gives you that “warm” sound. Anthony achieved it, but it was a bit on the low side.
Recommendation
There was a hiss in Anthony’s audio. It was subtle, but still noticeable. My recommendation here would be to use the hiss reduction feature in his Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). This would be Adobe Audition, Audacity, Garage Band etc.
Also, I always recommend having a show notes page per each episode. Why? Well first off, it’s helpful to the listener to be able to have all the show info in ONE place. Second, because it helps you drive traffic back to your site. Anthony posts his show on SoundCloud. That means he should be able to embed the player on his show notes page. Click here for an example.
I’d get my SoundCloud link changed from “soundcloud.com/user-297417061” to “soundcloud.com/passingtimepodcast”.
Berry talks about why this is important all the time. Click here for her thoughts on the matter.
